This card idea came from my crafty friend at Elainescreations.net. She holds classes frequently, and so I followed along and added my own twist. This new die cut paper flower in the Prized Peony suite from Stampin' Up is already interesting and beautiful, but having some personal experience with paper flowers, I wanted to add a little color/shading and some depth/dimension. I'm also entering this card into the SUOC254 Challenge - Coloring. I colored my flower using sponge daubers and Rocco Rose ink.
How I Shaded & Shaped the Prized Peony Paper Flower

Die cut the 5 pieces for large flower from the Peony dies.
Use a sponge dauber with some stamp ink (I used Rococo Rose) to add some shading to the center of the biggest piece. Take care to avoid the edges as usually those are the brightest areas of your finished peony.
Continue with the sponge dauber and ink to add shading along the bottom of the three smaller petal die cut pieces. You'll notice from my Instagram video that I also placed scrap paper through the flower's slit on each piece so that I could add shading to the "center top" portion of each of the petals. Again, taking care to avoid the edges of the petals.
I used a generic oversized - 12mm stylus to add some shape to the petals. You can also use a small stylus, your fingers, or a bone folder to manipulate the paper fibers. With the colored side of the die cuts facing up, the center of the pieces were shaped downwards with the stylus using a circular motion. I then flipped the pieces (colored side down) and shaped the outer edges downwards.
Assembling the flower, is shown in Elaine's card tutorial linked below. Fast Forward to 14m30s to see how the die cut pieces fit together. I used a little line of multi-purpose liquid glue to adhere the bottom of the pieces together.
I added foam dimensionals in between the various layers to add some depth between the various layers of petals.
