Part 2 - Rainbows & Rainbows

Updated: Jun 24, 2021

In celebration of Pride this month, I was inspired to create many different cards featuring rainbows in many ways. This is the 1st of a series of Rainbow cards. Some were for thank you cards, or my monthly team swaps, others were for an Instagram Hop #LoveWins.

This second card's background was created with the new Artistically Inked stamp set and the sentiment is from the Biggest Wish stamp set. This fun-fold card technique was my own variation based on a fun-fold tutorial by Bibi Cameron.

Fun-Fold Card Technique Overview:

1) Partially Die-cut a shape (centered) through a pre-folded card base, making sure the cut end is closer to the crease/fold.

2) Partially die-cut a shape (centered) through a pre-folded card base, making sure the cut end is furthest from the crease/fold.

3) Glue the second cut piece to the inside of your card base.

For detailed instructions check out Bibi Cameron's YouTube tutorial here.

Blended Stamp Ink Technique:

A tip, learned after trial and error, the alcohol ink style stamps from this set look exceptional when I applied the ink using the blending brushes (vs. the direct ink to stamp method). Check out the time lapse video below.

I prefer using Ink Spots when ink blending for two main reasons;

1) It allows me to save space on my desktop - compared to the full-size ink pads, and

2) I get to use The Ink Stand which keeps my fingers ink-free!

I also created a modification of this card, specifically for the #LoveWins Instagram Hop with the Hero Arts sentiment stamp set from the Unity Collection titled "EMPOWERMENT".

I truly believe "When we support each other INCREDIBLE things happen" and that "ALL colors ARE beautiful".

It is important to celebrate Pride because there are still many rights and privileges not afforded to the LGBTQIA+ community.

It shouldn't matter what social injustice is or is not currently being highlighted in the news cycle, or what month it is... we all need to remember that we are ALL a part of humanity; and that social injustices are not political issues (although politicians may speak about them), they are humanitarian issues.

It is up to us to make the world a better place! Check out the #LoveWins Instagram Hop post here!

I have been speaking up about social justice issues along side my crafts since last year because I learned that being silent about important issues is taking the side of the oppressor. If we're not actively disagreeing with the behavior, then we're saying it's okay. If we are not learning about what's going on in the world, then we will continue to choose to NOT speak out against the issue. I'm not talking about making public speeches and radical activism, I'm talking about speaking in your own circle of influence; family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors... for me, my circle of influence includes my small craft community.
