How to Make a Liquid Shaker Card

During our monthly card party (with Elaine's Eclectic Stampers), one lucky stamper gets to do the Product-Know-It-All challenge. Elaine selects a product from the annual catalog and challenges us to use it on a craft project, we then present it to the group at the following monthly meeting.

For July, the product selected was the Foam Adhesive Sheets. I think as crafters many of us know how to use double-sided foam adhesive. For those who don't know, it comes in many forms such as mini foam dimensionals to pop up sentiments, die-cuts, or small embellishments on your project. There are also foam adhesive strips to help easily make shaker cards. Foam adhesive sheets can be cut with paper snips or open dies to fit any project.

With some trial and error, I discovered that the foam adhesive sheets will hold liquid (i.e. tinted water) if it's sandwiched between two window sheets. I used the All Dressed Up perfume bottle die and the coordinating stamp from the Dressed to Impress set.

I used the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #443 as inspiration for the card's layout. The designer series paper (DSP) is from the retired product medley "Everything Is Rosy".

Liquid Shaker Piece Instructions

  1. Cut the foam adhesive sheet to dimensions 1.75" x 2.25". Note: If using a different die, and you plan to use liquid then make sure to leave 1/8" border around the die cut shape.

  2. Center the perfume die foam adhesive sheet and run it through a diecut/embossing machine just as you would for cardstock.

  3. Cut 2 pieces of window sheets to dimensions 1.75" x 2.25"

  4. Tint a small amount of water with whatever color ink you prefer.

  5. Remove the bottom release paper from the die cut foam adhesive sheet and apply it to one of the window sheet pieces. Try to ensure the two pieces are lined up and then press both together firmly.

  6. Remove the top release paper from the die cut foam adhesive sheet.

  7. VERY CAREFULLY add a little bit of tinted water to the center of the die cut. Take great care to not get ANY liquid on the foam adhesive sheet, doing so will cause the top window sheet to not completely adhere to the foam adhesive sheet. I used a straw to transfer the water - put a straw in the tinted water container, cover the top of the straw with your finger and this should hold the water in the straw as you transfer it to your die cut.

  8. VERY CAREFULLY line up and apply the 2nd window sheet to the foam adhesive. Before pressing down firmly, use your finger to gently apply pressure around the foam adhesive die cut.

Card Assembly Instructions

  1. Assemble the Liquid Shaker piece using the instructions above.

  2. Card Base 5.5" x 8.5" score halfway at 4.25" and fold.

  3. Cut 1 piece of designer series paper (dsp) to 4.25" x 5", then cut diagonally both ways. This single piece of dsp is enough for 2 cards. Select two opposite pieces for one of your cards and adhere to the card front.

  4. Stamp the perfume bottle on a 1.75" x 2.25" piece of whisper white card stock

  5. Adhere the Liquid Shaker piece on top of the perfume stamped piece using 4 mini glue dots (1 in each corner) taking care to line up the stamp through the shaker window.

  6. Die cut a piece of whisper white using the largest die from the Tasteful Labels set and the perfume die and adhere to the top of the Liquid Shaker piece using 4 mini glue dots (1 in each corner) taking care to line up the stamp through the shaker window.

  7. Using paper snips, trim away any pieces of the liquid shaker piece that are exposed.

  8. Stamp the splatter dots from the Forever Fern stamp set. Note: I used the liquid shaker piece as a guide so that I know where to stamp the splatters so they peek out from behind the shaker piece.

  9. Use liquid multi-purpose glue to adhere the liquid shaker card piece to the front/center of the card.

  10. Stamp and die cut the coordinating flowers from the Dressed to impress set and adhere using liquid multi-purpose glue or mini glue dots.
