Inspiration for this project came from a friend; she only gave a little direction. 1) it needed to be a sign for her office door that stated she was either in a meeting or focused on a key deliverable, 2) her preferred colors were pink, white, silver, and 3) a chandelier should be incorporated.
I saw a post on the Bitten by the Bug 2 blog for a Guest Designer Challenge, and thought about entering a project earlier this month but life got pretty busy for a couple weeks. Now, seeing as how I just finished this project a couple days ago and the challenge hadn’t expired yet, I decided to add my entry. As FYI, my machine is the Cricut Maker and I use Recollection Cardstock from Michaels. The cut setting I used was the 60lb Light Cardstock setting and the Fine Point Blade.
Right after my friend intrigued me with this project, I instantly started looking around the Design Space Library and Pinterest for chandelier vector (SVG) images. I ended up liking the simplicity of this Chandelier image on Pinterest/Etsy. Then as mentioned, with life taking priority over crafts, a couple weeks passed before I woke up one morning with the entire idea for the project fresh on my mind.
I wanted to use a rotating wheel with various sentiments that show through a little window (like the Lawn Fawn reveal wheel) and I wanted to add rhinestone and pearl accents as part of the chandelier chains to add dimension.
It only took about 30 min of trial and error with various shapes and SVGs in Design Space before I came up with my final project to be cut. When uploading the image, I decided to erase all of the chain link dots, knowing I would put rhinestones in their place.
I used the Slice feature to merge the Chandelier and two ovals with the pink rectangle. The large 8.5" x 11" off-white rectangle wasn't cut, it was just used for a final project visualization in the software. The gray square represents the silver vinyl in my project, but if I had silver foil paper I likely would have used that. The scalloped circle was the back/bottom layer of the Circle Scallop Frame (M544C0A) from the Elegant Edges cartridge in the Design Store. I also used a small scrap piece of paper as an additional mechanism to make the wheel spin. You can refer to any of the Lawn Fawn Reveal Wheel tutorials out there.
The trickiest part of assembling the rotating wheel was aligning it in the window when adhering it. When I make this project again; I added a pin hole on the white scalloped print/cut wheel as well as on the pink chandelier sheet, so it will be easier to align it. You'll see me assembling the project in the video below.
For the bling, I had some sticky rhinestones but there were not nearly enough for the two finished signs. So I pulled out my new rhinestone setter (Darice brand bought on Amazon) and used my Silhouette rhinestones. I had to buy a new setter because my Silhouette brand with batteries corroded over the years.
