This project design today was created for my cousin, who is just getting into card-making and stamping. She wanted to make some treat boxes for the upcoming holidays, specifically something to hold Ghirardelli chocolate squares and this is the first of 2 ideas I came up with. As I was designing this, I challenged myself to come up with a design that minimized paper waste (scraps) and was relatively easy to mass produce (minimal cuts/scores). The color scheme of the Just Add Ink Color Challenge #534 - Real Red, Mossy Meadow, and Pear Pizzazz - is the reason for selection the Tis' The Season designer series paper. This project was also entered into the SUO Challenge 263 & 264.
After getting structural inspiration from the many talented crafters out there on Pinterest, I started creating a couple different prototypes. Many ended up not fitting more than 2 treat boxes on one 8.5x11 sheet of paper... I started reducing measurements... This is what I came up with.
You can create three finished treat boxes from 1 sheet of 8.5x11" cardstock and one 6x6" designer series paper. Check out the video on YouTube for a full tutorial.
Treat Box Cut/Score Instructions
On the 8.5 x 11" Cardstock
1) Cut horizontally at 4"
2) On the smaller piece, Score along the 8.5" side at 1", 3", 4", and 6", then cut at 7"
3) On the bigger piece, Score along the 7" side at 1", 3", 4", and 6"
4) Rotate 90°, then Cut at 4" twice
This will create three 4 x 7" pieces scored in only one direction
On each of the three 4 x 7" pieces
5) Along the 4" side, Score at 1" and 3"
