4th of July Projects

Hello!! I was busy planning and celebrating a Juneteenth BBQ in a new neighborhood a couple weeks ago that I didn't complete a couple Juneteenth projects I had planned. I'll get to posting those soon! For now, I have a couple 4th of July cards I created for a class kit this weekend.

The card on the right was inspired by a Global Design Project sketch challenge #298. The card on the left’s design was one I had been thinking about for awhile using the So Much Happy Bundle and the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set.

Below I've included instructions how to re-create these cards from scratch, and for my class kit participants, how to assemble the card.

Star Spangled Card

1) Start with a 4" x 5.25" sheet of thick basic white card stock, using the water painters, I laid down a layer of clear water in the bottom right corner first, then I picked up some Real Red ink saturated with water creating a whimsical blob of color, and then repeated it with a mix of Pacific Point and Misty Moonlight for the blue hue. Then also using the aqua painter, I picked up a little more ink with the water painters, and tapped/flicked the tip to get a splatter effect. I set this layer aside to dry.

2) Using scrap Basic White card stock, I die cut 3 shapes using the Stitched Stars dies.

3) Using scrap Real Red card stock, I heat embossed the "Celebrate" sentiment using

Versamark ink and Silver Embossing Powder.

4) The card base is Real Red card stock, 8.5" x 5.5" scored in half.

Assembly:

5) Adhere the water painted panel to the front of the card base.

6) Arrange and adhere the stars over the water painted area, I used glue dots and/or foam dimensional in a few places. If using liquid glue, I caution you to not use too much on the thin star outlines and swirls, a little glue will go a long way.

7) On the back of the "Celebrate" sentiment strip, using tear tape, remove the release paper, then wrap the silver thread around 4 of your fingers, 4-5 times, then slide it off your hand and apply it to the back of the "Celebrate" sentiment strip. Now adhere the sentiment strip to the card front.

8) Optionally, add the inside Basic White card panel

Rocket Popsicle Card

1) Start with a 4.25" x 11" sheet of thick basic white card stock, scored in half to create a top-folding card.

2) Using the "Happy" dies from the So Much Happy bundle (retired), die cut the word "Happy" 1" from the bottom.

3) Using a piece of Real Red card stock, (add dimensions), die cut the word "Happy". Trim the top and bottom to make the top and bottom strips of red even and straight.

4) Using a scrap piece of Basic White card stock, die cut the 3rd smallest start from the Stitched Stars set, and stamp the "4th" in the center in Pacific Point (I used the retired "Making a Difference" stamp set").

5) Stamp the popsicles from the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set using Pacific Point, Real Red, and Sahara Sand for the popsicle stick. Make sure to leave a little white space between the top and bottom of the popsicle stamps to create the Rocket popsicle look.

6) Stamp the fireworks from the Peace & Joy stamp set (retired). I used my ink spots to apply Real Red to the center of stamp design, and Pacific Point to the outer parts of the stamp design.

Assembly:

7) Adhere the Real Red "Happy" die cut to the front of the card, on top of the Basic White "Happy" die cut

8) Using a foam dimensional or glue, add the star to the bottom right side of the card front.

9) Optionally, add some Basic Rhinestone embellishments to make the card shine a little more.
