Thanks to a referral from a friend, a new customer reached out to me for two custom Pineapple/Hibiscus/Leaf cake toppers. She was inspired by the following Pinterest/Etsy image and was interested in adding "Double Trouble" and "Dirty Thirty" to the cake topper.
The fern and banana leaf vectors were found online, each were slightly customized in Cricut Design Space. I created a unique pineapple from a few vector images online, and used the following Cricut images: Hibiscus #M32771 and Luau #M46987. The fonts for the verbiage is "SignPainter".
When searching Cricut images and Pinterest for Paper Hibiscus tutorials, I was a little un-inspired because most were very basic hibiscus images (simple gluing of flat layers) or very realistic looking Crepe Paper Hibiscus flowers. I have experience making 3D paper flowers, and so I took a stab at creating a 3D hibiscus from 65lb cardstock that looked realistic.
I used my McGill Paper Blossoms Tool Kit large stylus to shape the leaves, and added shading using copic markers and a white gel pen. I used a simple paper quilled coil to create a base to glue the stamen onto.
